Mechwarrior Online
One of the main hobbies of boys, men and even grandfathers are battles using various military equipment: tanks, aircraft, robots and God knows what else. Many samples have long migrated to video games from floor and desktop gatherings, but somehow it was not set with futuristic machines. Let the cult of fur-giant combat robots in Japan-in scale, is quite comparable to the cult of large-eyed capers, only echoes fly outside the country of the rising sun. Gundam, Macross, Armored Core-here, in general, and that. For a long time, the only outlet of robots in the West was the BatTletech/MechWarrior universe, but for ten years now the series has been in decline.
Mechwarrior Online – an attempt to recall yourself again. This free multiplayer action from the Canadian studio Piranha Games at first glance very successfully imitates the Belarusian phenomenon of World of Tanks. Robots instead of tanks – the difference, in fact, is insignificant. And there and there are deep mechanics, realistic ballistics and team interaction. But not everything is so simple.
Typical set
Battle robots – soul and heart mwo. There are four types of them in total: light, medium, heavy and assault. Everyone has a certain role. The lungs are ideal scouts, while assault – real fortresses, bristling with dozens of different -caliber trunks.
Today, one class accounts for only three or four models of furs that differ in armor, fire power, speed and a number of other parameters. There are several pre -installed modifications with a different set of weapons, upgrades and additional modules.
[[Bullet]] In skillful hands flamethrower – the most terrible weapon.
At the start, newcomers receive according to the most primitive robot of each type. They cannot be tuned to their liking, but they do not require repair (which costs money) and allow you to decide on which class you want to play the most. Well, after a dozen battles (not necessarily victorious) you can easily buy some advanced car. And here the most interesting.
Clothing for pumping
Buying the first robot opens access to the most important and, perhaps, the most worked out aspect of the game – the pre -war preparation of fur. In any case, MWO should not be neglected with thin tuning, since it is often on it, and not on the accuracy and accuracy of your movements, the future victory depends.
The assortment of the spare parts store would like even Tony Stark. In the modules (head, arms, shoulders, torso, legs) you can install a lot of various devices: machine guns, cutters, shields, anti -missiles and so on. Everything, up to detailed, individual cockpit for each fur, has been worked out very carefully and, most importantly, realistic: you cannot load a small robot with mighty guns that kill any enemy from one shot – various restrictions like the carrying capacity and power of the reactor will prevent the reactor.
[[Bullet]] The configuration of the robot takes almost more time than the battles themselves.
As in most conditionally-free games, to create a car of your dreams, you will need many sonorous coins-either bought for real money or earned in battle. If desired, all upgrades can be accumulated independently, except perhaps visual lotions such as camouflage and robots of the "heroic" category. In a word, nothing new.
Beat the limb
No matter how long you would like to delve into the settings, the most interesting begins, of course, in battle. At the time of writing this article, Mechwarrior Online had two game modes: command (Assault) and the capture of control points (Conquest). The differences between them are very minor – in both teams of eight people fight, and a maximum of fifteen minutes is allocated to the battle (although, as a rule, everything ends much faster).
The standard match in MWO is almost two drops of water like a battle in World of Tanks. Robots-reconnaissance robots are the first to rush-fast, maneuverable and with a large radius of visibility. Their task is to discover the enemy, indicate the direction of the blow and, ideally, also survive at the same time. The second wave is medium and heavy vehicles – the main combat force. It is at this stage that the outcome of the fight is often resolved. The last most dangerous robots enter the battle – gigantic clumsy attack aircraft hung with weapons and armor, like Christmas trees with toys. However, it happens that while some “Titan” reaches the enemy, all his teammates are already piles of useless scrap metal. And if the enemies are superior to the number, no firing power will save here.
[[Bullet]] The view from the cab adds authenticity, but sometimes I want to play with a third -person camera. Who knows, maybe the developers will add such an opportunity.
The so -soared robot is able to carry a bunch of guns, but a shot at the same time from all trunks can become fatal even for the most protected car. This is because the use of weapons leads to the release of heat, namely, overheating is the main enemy of any robot: the electronics instantly turns off, and the fur for a few seconds becomes absolutely defenseless.
Skillful enemy of this time will be more than enough for murder. Therefore, in order to avoid trouble, you need to think all the time when and from which weapons it is best to attack (lasers quickly overheat the enemy, and the missiles apply more damage). And, no less important where. Sufficient damage to the hands or shoulder modules will leave the enemy without weapons, and the shot leg will disable him per second.
I wrap it, I don't understand anything
Even if you have the experience of the previous MechWarrior-IGR and tens of hours in World of Tanks, you should not seduct-at first your main opponent will not be guns of enemies at all, but your own robot. Piloting of combat fur – not children's fun. The fact is that the chassis and the cabin are moving independently of each other. In other words, if you tighten the camera in one direction too much, and the robot itself in the other, then you run the risk of confusing in places in front.
Given that you can play only with a view from the cab, this happens very often here. Beginners and completely resemble babies who only learned to walk: they are uncertainly seeds, not fully understanding how they succeed. The problem does not facilitate the fact that Mechwarrior Online must be monitored by the speed of movement. Despite the familiar WASD scheme, if you release the Gas button, the fur will not slow down, but will continue to rush forward at a fixed speed. Needless to say, in the heat of battle, at first you constantly forget about it?
Only a few months have passed since the start of open beta testing, so the game is still allowing technical problems, excessive calculations for fans of the universe and the complexity of development (while there are simply no tutorial, you have to understand the method of scientific pumpkin in many ways, reading the forums and viewing videos on the site). The main thing that you can’t take from the game is the spirit of the real Mechwarrior. Here, of course, there is no epic plot or a hint of an adventure inherent in the singles of the series, but this is the same hardcore simulator of combat robots with proper ballistics and physics, which gives long -forgotten sensations. If you want to feel like a pilot of a multi -ton combat vehicle, and not a clown in front of the TV ( Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor ), then be sure to get acquainted with Mechwarrior Online. She is worth it.

Manned robots
From vehicles to real prototypes
The manned combat vehicles managed to go a long way from the vehicles invented by the science fiction writers to completely tangible prototypes. The robots managed to mark the mass of films, comics, desktop and video games. Some remained unnoticed, and some grew up in a series of epic scale with multimillion-dollar armies of fans and a rich history. We prepared a material in which we recalled the main stages of development of manned robots in mass culture.
1879
Monument to the Martian tripod in the county of Surrei, England.
It is generally accepted that for the first time large cars controlled by people were seen in Jules Verne’s novel “Steam House”. Three British and Frenchmen traveled around Northern India on a huge mechanical elephant, which was driven by a steam engine.
After almost twenty years, the "war of the worlds" Herbert Wells came out. The work showed that robots are suitable not only as vehicles. In the novel of the Englishman, they appeared in the form of huge tripods armed with thermal and chemical weapons. With their help, the Martians tried to capture our planet.
1943
The eighteen -meter statue of iron man in the historical homeland is in the city of Kobe, Japan.
In 1943, Ruyty Yokoyama in the magazine "Manga" published a fantastic comic called "The Warrior of Science comes to New York", where a huge combat robot appeared. It was he who became the starting point for the further popularization of armored vehicles in the country of the rising sun.
In 1956, the Mitsuteri Yokoyama manga “Iron Man No. 28” was released about a three-story robot with remote control, and for years later, the first black and white series in the new genre, which will later receive the name “Furs”, was taken away for its motives.
The robot, controlled directly from the cab, first appeared in the early seventies in the manga and the Anime series of the Mazinger z artist Go Nagai.
1979
Gundam Visa. The Japanese hobby of the universe knows no boundaries.
At the end of the seventies, the Japanese hobby with piloted robots turned almost into a national idea. One of the most famous eastern franchises is considered “Gandam” – an epic consisting of countless issues of manga, anime, books, video games, souvenir products and other attributes of a truly massive cultural phenomenon.
Against the backdrop of the merciless and meaningless war of the two camps, the reason for the enmity of which no one already remembers, the series tells about the problems of ordinary people (who said “Transformers”?). Robots here are represented in a fairly familiar form for us – human -like machines controlled by the pilot, which have a whole arsenal at their disposal: light swords, huge axes, lasers, blasters and other machine guns installed in all conceivable places. By the way, it was the “Gandam” who brought the share of realism into the genre – the cartridges and energy end here, and the robots require repairs after the fighting.
1980
The robot helps Lieutenant Ripley in the fight against strangers.
In 1980, piloted robots reached a large screen. It all started with the fifth episode of “Star Wars” (“The Empire is responding to a blow”), where the so-called imperial steps were involved-the AT -T armed tanks, capable of lifting about fifty attacks and up to five tons of additional cargo. For their movements to look natural, I had to use a short -haired animation. George Lucas admitted that Herbert Wells inspired him to create walking tanks with his tripods.
Despite the success of AT-T among the audience, humanoid cars were still more popular. The most striking examples are a cargo robot from the “strangers” (1986) and the mechs-stiators who fought on the arenas in the film “Robot Jox” (1989). From relatively recent examples: Exoskeletons of aliens in the “district No. 9” (2009) and ground -based infantry machines in “Avatar” by James Cameron (2009).
1981
All components-lions assembly. Voltron is ready to protect the universe.
Of course, since people came up with robots similar to themselves, someone thought of the robots with animal properties. The most famous example of such experiments is Beast King Golion – a Japanese animated series about a robot consisting of five mechanical lions of different colors, each of which was controlled by a separate pilot. A few years later, the changed version of the series was broadcast in America under the heading of Voltron. The series was quite popular, and it was repeatedly referred to in mass culture. For example, the “king of animals” often mentioned in their texts rappers from Wu-Tang Clan, the robot’s toy model can be seen in the series “Live”, and in the card game Magic: The Gathering there is “Voltron's Colle”.
1983 – ..
Legendary controller for Steel Battalion.
The gaming industry could not ignore such a phenomenon. One of the first games on the topic was Vastar Schooller, which appeared in 1983 on arcade machines. Since then, the robots managed to light up in almost all key genres: JRPG ( Front Mission , Xenogears ), action ( Shogo: Mobile Armor Division , Battlefield 2142 , Lost Planet ), strategies ( Supreme Commander , Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3), simulators (Mechwarrior and Steel Battalion) and others.
Metal Gear Rex – a perfect weapon from the first three -dimensional part of the saga.
Wide tactical capabilities, a detailed management system, the need to work in a team, a complex setting of combat units, a point system of damage (a well-aimed shot of an enemy robot could be immobilized, deprived of the opportunity to use any weapons or even kill a pilot)-such an unimaginable richness of the possibilities and unusual setting made Mechwarrior a truly legendary series.
In turn, the authors of Steel Battalion have come to the point. The first two games in the series required a special controller equipped with three pedals, two joysticks and a crazy number of buttons and tolers. In the third part, Heavy Armor, the studio tried to realize the control of the combat tank through the sensory controller of Kinect.
Separately, it is worth mentioning the passion for the robots of Hideo Kojima. From the moment the first part of the spy saga Metal Gear In 1987, they appeared in all the canonical parts of the series (not to mention Zone of the enders ). In his games, robots are a constant source of threat to the whole world.
2013
The robot is available in sixteen color solutions. In addition, you can choose the color of the cabin upholstery.
In 2010, the Japanese mechanic Kogur Kurat gathered a team of like -minded people in order https://sister-site.org/rhino-bet/ to construct a full -fledged war -manned robot. No sooner said than done. Already at the Wonder Fest 2012 exhibition, the Kurata team demonstrated a working prototype of the mechanism.
A four -meter robot, called Kuratas, weighs about five tons and is driven by a diesel engine. The pilot's place is equipped with two joysticks and a gesture and facial recognition system. Sticks are responsible for the movements of mechanical hands, but for some reason, the facial expressions are used to manage weapons. For example, if the pilot smiles, the robot immediately starts shooting from machine guns (fortunately, so far only with plastic balls). The robot is also equipped with a rocket launcher, which shoots bottles of water and fireworks.
What is the most interesting – Kuratas can be bought right on the official website of the project. The base model will cost $ 1.3 million, and for additional money, a glass holder will be installed in the cabin. The preliminary order on Kuratas was issued by more than three thousand people.
